Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
When we build one another up, we are giving the gift of “hope in another”. We have professed that our true hope exists in Christ alone. By sharing hope in another and lovingly “building” up this hope in them, we lavish the glory of Christ in their hearts to shine. We witness God in them.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
When we remember the One who was completely faithful to us, we, ourselves are strengthened to hope and persevere. In a world filled with conflict and chaos, facing end times – it remains vital to stir love and good works. We need each other for encouragement and scripture reminds us of the importance of fellowships of faith.
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
When we speak, our words need to build not to tear down. Words that corrupt are those that plant seeds of division, harm, envy, malice, slander, deceit, abuse, manipulation.
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
When we love one another we become agents of healing. Then we are vessels of God’ grace. The grace of God covers sin. When we are filled with Love-pouring, an outcome is the gift of hospitality: sharing the best of what has been received from God. Some call “stewardship” a sharing of God’s gifts.
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
When we lovingly bear the burdens of others we fulfill the law of Christ. It was His command to love one another as He loved us. This is a sacrificial love that puts the deepest burdens of one’s brother before any personal need. Viewing Christ’s sacrifice places a perspective in each of our own hearts.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
How would we stir up one another to love and good works? By encouragement, fellowship and bearing the burdens of one another.
